Making the Bible a god

I also heard a voice saying to me, „Get up, Peter; kill and eat.“
But I said, „By no means, Lord, for nothing unholy or unclean has ever entered my mouth.“

‭‭Acts‬ ‭11:7-8‬ ‭NASB‬‬

There is a severe importance to adhering completely to the Bible, but there is as always a grave risk that comes with it.

There are a lot of lunatics around claiming all sorts of knowledge or divine revelation coming directly from God. And of course, they will receive their deserved punishment in full. God indeed has a problem with people who claim that He said things, that He never said.

Thus says the Lord GOD,
“Woe to the foolish prophets
who are following their own spirit
and have seen nothing.“

‭‭Ezekiel‬ ‭13:3‬ ‭NASB‬‬

But on the other side of the spectrum, we have a lot of people who think they honor God‘s Word, but in fact, they have built these man-made structures, where God isn‘t allowed to be God anymore. Some people truly believe that God will respect their constructs – even when it comes to His own Church.

…in unison when the trumpeters and the singers were to make themselves heard with one voice to praise and to glorify the LORD, and when they lifted up their voice accompanied by trumpets and cymbals and instruments of music, and when they praised the LORD saying,
“He indeed is good for His lovingkindness is everlasting,” then the house, the house of the LORD, was filled with a cloud,
SO THAT the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud, for the glory of the LORD filled the house of God.

‭‭2 Chronicles‬ ‭5:13-14‬ ‭NASB‬‬

Men build denominations, doctrines and ideas that might come from the Bible even, but they often leave no space for God to interrupt their traditions. It can be difficult to allow God to overrule our own rules and systems, because we spent a lot of time and energy in building it up.

Yet in many cases in the Bible, God challenges the reasoning of man with tests of Faith like when Abraham was sent to sacrifice his son or in the above case, where God is telling Peter to eat food considered unholy and unclean by Jewish belief.

Imagine if these men would have resisted God based on what they learned that Scripture told them… What would that have meant?

Exactly, they would have made Scripture their god and completely rejected the living true God speaking directly to them on specific personal subject matters.
